What’s in the Review?

Jim Starling Using Joosup

In his video review, Jim talks about the key features of the app as well as its benefits.

But before diving into the specifics of the app's features, Jim initially talks about the reasons why he feels the Joosup concept is a great idea and why people should use it.

As Jim initially explains:

"Firstly, you can rent out your wall box to members of the public and make some money from it. And that's great because people get to use more charging. You're adding to the public infrastructure and you're getting to earn a few quid."

Jim also goes on to highlight the fact that Joosup's pricing model does not take commissions from Hosts, meaning everyone benefits from the transaction instantly:

"Joosup doesn't take a commission. All the payments come instantly via PayPal... it's direct, it's instant. You don't have to wait (six) months to get paid or anything like that."

As Jim continues, he also highlights the benefits to EV owners of using slower 7.4kW charging as opposed to rapid charging:

"If I want to go and charge somewhere, particularly if I'm happy to slow charge, that's generally better for your battery than fast charging."

He then goes on to explain how the Joosup app combines parking and charging, which saves a lot of time, hassle and costs, especially in places where parking is limited and expensive, and where public EV charging may not be available:

"This location in particular, is really handy for Poole hospital. Poole hospital is not cheap to park at. The multi-storey car park is an absolute turd! It's really tight. The parking spaces are really tight. And this is really conveniently located for that. It's like a 5-10 minute walk. So it's great."

As Jim continues, he brilliantly explains how the concept saves money by avoiding costly public parking and EV charging costs:

"This host is currently charging £3.70 an hour. But I get to park here and charge the car at the same time. And that's not too much more expensive than it is to park at Poole hospital, but I can't charge my car while I'm (parked) there (at the hospital)."

The Charging Process

In the first part of Jim's review, he quickly explains the process of how charging on a Host's driveway works:

"So here we are. Really nice drive. Nice road. Easy to find house."

"There's a Zappi charger and the owner's activated that for me. I'm plugged in (charging) and feel absolutely more than happy wandering up the road for my hospital appointment and coming back to find my car's got an extra 30 to 40 miles in it... maybe more."

Joosup vs The Competition

Jim then moves on to discuss the advantages of using Joosup over similar competing apps:

"The great thing with Joosup compared to other apps where you can rent out your wall box is you have one account that does everything. So I don't need to sign up to be a Host or sign up to be a user. By default you're both."

As he further clarifies, using the Joosup app as a driver or a Host, or even both is a very simple and trouble-free process:

"If I decide to add my charger at home, it's really simple. I can do it on the app in a couple of minutes. But likewise if I just want to book a charging session on someone's drive, I just go and do that with the same account. There's no drama."

Quick Features Overview

Jim then swiftly moves onto showing a few of his favourite features of the Joosup app, and presents realtime videos of the app in action:

"One of the things I like about Joosup is the way the maps works. Unlike some other apps, you can actually use it intuitively. So you can either put in a postcode, you can click the nearest places to you, or you can just search by town."

He then continues to illustrate how to find a suitable charge-point using the map:

"You (simply) click on the nearest charge-points available. If you prefer one in a different location, just find it on the map which you can do by zooming in and out."

And then continues by explaining how charging sessions are paid for and initiated:

"When you arrive on site you click "Start Session", pay via PayPal and off you go!"

He then concludes by reminding viewers of the advantages of being a Joosup host and why our zero-commissions policy is a win-win:

"As a host you're going to get all that money apart from the PayPal fee."

Jim also reminds viewers why being a driver using Joosup is also great:

"The "no commissions" things is more important than you might think. And that's because if the person's charger you're using is not paying a fee to some third party company, they can rent their charger out to you a bit more cheaply."

"There's some (Joosup hosts) I've seen that are renting theirs out for the actual cost price from their energy provider. For example, £0.27 to £0.28 per kWh during the day!"

Jim’s Thoughts on Charger Sharing

Jim Starling Thumbs Up

During his presentation, Jim moves onto explain why it's important that people adopt apps like Joosup at scale:

"The more people use this, the better it is for everyone. And the more useful the app becomes. And in actual fact, parking on someone's drive is much, much nicer than going to a public car park. And if I can charge the car up while I'm doing it, why not?"

"So the more people who sign up to this, the better it will work for everyone. I think it's a great little app and it's one I'll be keeping on my phone. You never know when that's going to come in handy."

As Jim concludes, he ends with a final thought about ideal scenarios when to rent out your EV charger:

"Certainly at times when you're on holiday, maybe just rent out your charger while you're gone. Or rent out your drive as a parking space."
